Born August 4, 1947in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Freddie Sherrod, Jr was the son of Freddie Sherrod, Sr. and Annie F. Shepard. Freddie passed from this life on February 7, 2018.
Freddie graduate from Westinghouse High School, married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Wallace and fathered a son, Robert Lawrence Johnson.
In the late 60’s, Freddie joined the United States Air Force, fought during Vietnam War and served as a military policeman in numerous countries including Japan, Taiwan and Turkey.
After completing his tour of service, Freddie returned to Pittsburgh and spent several years driving a taxi while studing pre-med. After completing his Bachelor Degree at the University of Pittsburgh, Freddie began working for the University as a member of the Campus Police Department.
Freddie loved working for the University, was a staunch supporter of all this “Pitt” And was an honorary member of Mu Kappa Upsilon recognized for his contributions. Freddie was also committed to making a difference in the lives of Native Americans and contributed regularly to their education and schools.
Freddie enjoyed creating unusual culinary dishes, making wine in the basement and trying it out the results on family. He displayed considerable talent as a writer and comedian, capable of reducing and entire room of friends and relatives to laughter with one line.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents.
Freddie leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved son Robert Lawrence Johnson; his sisters, Pauline Halima Daniels and Marshann Hampton; two nephews Phillip Sherrod and Michael Angelo White; niece Gemil White Morse; great nieces Shakirah and Anniah; great nephews, Miles, Gabriel and Jaiden and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
