Gertha (Johnson) Grinage

Gertha Johnson was born on March 25, 1925 to the late David James Johnson and Mary Jane Gilbert.  She was one of 13 children. Gertha Grinage 92, of Penn Hills went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 21, 2018.

Gertha was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board.  Gertha grew up in the Homewood-Brushton area and graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1944.  She worked for a brief time as a Nurses Aide.  Gertha met and married John Alfred Grinage of Imperial, Pennsylvania in June, 1949.

Gertha loved to bake, can preserves and work in her garden. We can still see her sitting on her porch or painting the white picket fence.

Due to John’s failing health, and Gertha’s dedication to his care, they relocated to San Diego, California where they remained for many years.  They became members of North Park Baptist Church until they returned to Penn Hills to be close to family and friends.  They were married 40 years until John went to be with the Lord on August 15, 1989.

Gertha was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 11 siblings.

Gertha is survived by her devoted brother, Archie Johnson of Pittsburgh and her loving sister, Elda Mae Murray of Houston, Texas as well many family and friends.
