Laura Kate Smith was born on March 28, 1938 to the late Lethia Alston and Joe Cook in Jenkins Jones, WV. She was the youngest of her 3 siblings which she was predeceased by; Sam Johnson, Johnnie Mae White, and Ruthie Davis. Laura moved to Eutaw, AL at a young age where Aunt Mama Laura and Aunt Mama Kate were a big part of her life. She attended Greene County Training School where she met her late husband William Smith, Jr.
Laura was a loving, caring, and very compassionate Woman of God. She was a phenomenal mother, grandmother, aunt cousin, friend, and so much more. She will be remembered by her strength, kindness, pure and genuine heart, and her love for her family and friends.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her 4 children, Jessie Beatrice Smith Gilmore, Wesley Smith, William “Ricky” Smith III, and Gregory Demus; son-in-law Louis E. Gilmore III (Jessie) and daughter-in-law Linda M. Smith (William); 18 grandchildren, Suave’, Tamika, Shayla, Shannon “Buck”, Sheneala, Shardasha, Shamara, Nakia, Ricsheena, Terrence, Ja’lyn, Kie’Yonna, Kameron, Kierra, Karlos, and Keron; 15 great grandchildren, A’leiya, Shaquaya, Damauri, Nadia, Imani, Kai Daniel, Tyrone, Robert, Aamerie, Shawnti, Landon, Cali, Trinity, SaRiyah, and Karlito; 2 great great grandchildren, Mar’Qua and Legend; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
