Vivian Reed Obituary

Vivian Marie Reed was born on December 18, 1939 to Gaserine and Angus Dixon. She was the youngest daughter of 11 children. Vivian was educated in the Rankin Public Schools where she enjoyed being a member of the Rankin Oarlets, a dance and performance group.

Vivian was united in holy matrimony to Dennis Reed. Her greatest joy was being a loving wife and mother. Vivian loved her family. Her family was her life.

Vivian shared her life with many and touched many more. From her neighborhood in St. Clair Village where she was known as the “Neighborhood Mom”; to marching in Washington, DC for Grandparents Rights; to serving lunches to young children at Philip Murray School; to sharing her home-cooked meals with her neighbors in her apartment building.

Vivian peacefully departed this life on Sunday, August 14, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Preceding her passing were her parents, Gaserine and Angus Dixon; her husband, Dennis Reed; her brothers, Sam Dixon, Fred Dixon, Angus Dixon, Jr., Lorenzo Dixon and Arthur Dixon; and her sisters, Mildred Dixon, Dorothy Dixon-Reed and Catherine Dixon.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two loving sons, Carl Green, Jr. (Joyce) and Larry Green; four loving daughters: Carlene Green Toomer (Harold), Rochetta Green, Connie Green, and Arnetta Green; her brother, Charles Dixon (Jeannie); her sister, Constance Dixon; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
